Fatimah (SA): Prerequisite for Faith and Guidance

Fatimah (SA): Prerequisite for Faith and Guidance

In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 136, the Noble Qur’an addresses the Muslims, saying:
“Say: ‘We believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us…’”

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (AS) explains this verse:
“Indeed, what is meant here is ‘Ali, Fatimah, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn—and after them, this extends to the remaining Imams (AS).”
(Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 1, p. 688)

This means that accepting every divine command pertaining to these sacred personalities—including believing in their wilayah (guardianship) and acting accordingly—is an integral part of faith itself. In fact, these pure individuals (AS) are the very condition for the perfection of faith and guidance. For they are the path of guidance itself, and opposing them leads only to misguidance.

This is further clarified in the following verse:
“So if they believe in the like of what you have believed in, they will have been rightly guided; but if they turn away, they are only in opposition…”
(Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 137)

Regarding this, Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (AS) states:
“It is sufficient for you that you say what we say and remain silent about what we remain silent upon. Thus, if you speak as we speak and submit to us in matters about which we are silent, you will truly be believers…”
(Mustadrak al-Wasa’il, vol. 12, p. 277; Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 2, p. 77)
